Production of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose on the choice of refined cotton

2023-04-11
In recent years, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose has developed significantly in quality, yield, variety, and technology, and its use has gradually been promoted. For example, replacing high-quality starch with increasing flexibility and smoothness is beneficial to printing and dyeing in the textile industry. Adding in the washing industry and cosmetics industry can improve the stability of the foam, as well as the adsorption of dirt, and improve the cleaning efficiency. In the oil drilling industry, to reinforce the borehole wall. In food, it can increase the consistency of lactic acid beverages and improve the taste. The calcium salt of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is a disintegrating agent for instant coffee, instant soy milk, etc.

The traditional production process of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is that fine cotton undergoes alkalization to produce alkali cellulose and then etherification to produce sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. The most basic raw material is refined cotton, also known as absorbent cotton or pulp (PS: now to reduce production costs, wood pulp is also used). Almost pure natural cellulose requires 35%-40% of methylcellulose if the fiber staple mixed with part of the long lint is not a problem. On the contrary, with selected pure staple as raw material, the viscosity of the finished product is not necessarily high because the raw material will be mixed with more immature cellulose. And, refined cotton should be careful to prevent polyester and other chemical fibers mixed in.

According to the index of refined cotton, the degree of polymerization can not be less than 500. Still, the determination of polymerization is difficult, requiring a constant temperature environment and precision instruments. If using simple methods to determine the degree of polymerization, the production is no accurate guidance. Refined cotton moisture content should be less than 10%, the moisture brought during transportation and storage should be dried to prevent mildew. Only if the quality of the basic raw materials is well controlled, the quality of the following products and the final product of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose can be done well.
