I. Introduction：
Carboxymethyl cellulose, is the product of substitution of carboxymethyl group of cellulose. Depending on the molecular weight or the degree of substitution, it can be a completely soluble or insoluble polymorph, the latter can be used as a weakly acidic cation exchanger for the separation of neutral or alkaline proteins, etc. Carboxymethyl cellulose can form high viscosity colloids, solutions, adhesion, thickening, flow, emulsification and dispersion, shaping, water retention, protection of colloids, film forming, acid resistance, salt resistance, suspension agent and other properties, and has good physiological activity, so it is widely used in the production of food, pharmaceutical, daily chemical, petroleum, paper, textile, construction and other industries.
Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is the most productive, widely used and convenient one among cellulose ether products, which is called "industrial monosodium glutamate".
1. Oil, natural gas and other mineral drilling, well-digging and other engineering projects.
①Mud containing CMC can make the well wall form a thin and hard structure, poor permeability of the filter cake and reduce water loss.
②The addition of CMC in the mud can enable the drilling rig to obtain a lower initial cutting force and make the mud easy to release the gas wrapped in the mud, and at the same time, the debris can be quickly abandoned in the mud pit.
③Drilling fluid, like other suspensions, has a certain period of existence. The addition of CMC can stabilize it and extend its period of existence.
④Mud containing CMC is rarely affected by mold, therefore, it is not necessary to maintain a very high pH value or use preservatives.
⑤Using CMC as a drilling mud washing fluid treatment agent can resist the contamination of various soluble salts.
⑥The mud containing CMC has good stability, even if the temperature exceeds 150℃, the water loss will be reduced.
2. Used in textile industry and dyeing industry, CMC is used as sizing agent for sizing light yarns of cotton, silk, chemical fiber and blended and other reinforced fabrics.
3. Used in paper industry, CMC in the paper industry can be used as a paper smoothing agent, sizing. Adding 0.1%~0.3% CMC can make the tension resistance increase by 40%~50%, compression rupture increase by 50% and kneading increase by 4~5 times.
4. CMC can be used as adsorbent when added to synthetic detergent; CMC for toothpaste industry this daily chemical product glycerin solution can be used as a gum base for toothpaste; pharmaceutical industry used as thickener and emulsifier; CMC aqueous solution used as flotation beneficiation after viscosity increase, etc.
5. It is used in ceramic industry as binder, plasticizer, glaze suspension agent and color fixing agent for blanks.
6. Used in buildings to improve the water retention capacity and enhance the force.
7. Used in food industry, food industry uses high replacement degree CMC as thickener for ice cream, canned food, quick cooking noodles, foam stabilizer for beer, etc., as thickener, binder or because of the shape of the agent, used for processing jam, sugar juice, fruit dew, snacks, ice cream drinks, etc.
8. CMC with proper viscosity is used as binder of tablets, disintegrating agent, suspending agent of suspension mixer, etc. as tablets.
II. Extension:
CMC with high viscosity and high degree of substitution is suitable for low viscosity mud, while CMC with low viscosity and high degree of substitution is suitable for high density mud. The selection of CMC should be based on the type of mud and different conditions such as region and well depth.
The high-end substitute of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), polyanionic cellulose (PAC), is also an anionic cellulose ether with higher degree of substitution and uniformity of substitution, shorter molecular chains and more stable molecular structure, thus improving the performance of salt resistance, acid resistance, calcium resistance and high temperature resistance, and solubility.
